Our sheer chiffon scarf is also a spring favorite, lightweight, yet it keeps you perfectly warm. Furthermore, our cotton and chiffon scarves are created using the hand-block technique. This traditional technique begins with the creation of custom carved wooden blocks, which are then stamped onto the cotton fabric. This process is quite lengthy, requiring perfect blocks, alignment, and placement. After the printing is complete, the fabrics are then washed and sun dried. This extremely difficult process is what makes Atticco scarves unique, no other printing technique requires the same craftsmanship as hand-block printing. Along with hand-block printing, our silk scarves are also created using the Shibori technique of dyeing. This traditional Japanese technique is an art form, requiring immense refined skill. Every pattern is individually sewn into the scarves and then hand-dyed. After the fabric is dyed, every individual stitch is undone by hand. This process is extremely difficult and time consuming, however the results are beautiful. The Shibori technique ensures every pattern is unique and different, with no two scarves being identical. The story of those creating these scarves is equally interesting as the techniques used to create the Shibori scarves. The Atticco collaborates with a co-op in rural Rajasthan to create these scarves. This organization provides rural women, who were abandoned by their husbands that left while searching for job opportunities. Therefore, the Atticco helps provide these women with a stable income, allowing them to display their craftsmanship to provide for their families.
